Translation services

I translate different texts (colloquial, formal, literary) from and into English, Russian, and Persian.

I also offer an interpreting service.

My translation skills

Computer programs struggle to translate idiomatic language, expressions, allusions and references. The result in the target language is often incomprehensible. The translated text must read as if written originally in the target language.

An in-depth knowledge of the languages and their cultures enables me to convey the style, the tone, and the shades of meaning.

My interpreting skills

Languages change. Current events and changes in attitude give birth to new words and expressions. I read and listen to many sources to ensure my languages are up-to-date. I grasp opportunities to practise and improve my listening skills.

Interpreting can be stressful. There is little time to find the appropriate word or phrase and mistakes must be avoided. Mishearing numbers (for instance, the Russian numbers twelve and nineteen) could lead to a serious misunderstanding.

The topic of conversation can add to the stress. Speakers become emotional and less guarded about the language they use. A major problem also occurs when the word order of the source and target language does not match. (In Persian, the subject of a sentence is revealed at the end.) I have learned from experience to remain calm.

Whatever your goals, I will be happy to help you achieve them. Please contact me to discuss how we can work together.
